Driving and My Future, along with FFFor the people who dont know im 17 right now, and being 17 i still dont have the one thing that everyone else in my school does...a drivers license. Even my best friend is going to get hers soon sometime this month, and i dont even have my permit yet! I took my test along time ago but i had barely failed it and ive been too scared to go back and retake it. Though hopefully soon im going to go back and hopefully pass this time and by the time im 18 ill be able to get my license. But i cant help but feel kinda inferior to all my classmates cause theyve all had theirs for months now and their all expert drivers and have got their own cars that their parents were able to get them. I mean, even if i do get my permit and my license i dont think my family can afford another car, i might be getting a second job soon, hopefully, cuz the one i have at the theater is only letting me work on saturday and sunday and that isnt helping moneywise.
Other than that, suddenly all of our teachers are talking about colleges and our futures and i believe im stuck. Cause ive narrowed down what i want to do to 4 things->
sychology, teaching, writing, and art-ing(lol>.>
Now that ive talked with a few more people ive come up with a little plan, i think im gonna take art/writing as a minor and then take either psychology or teaching as my major. Problem is-I cant decide which one i wanna do more, psychology or teaching. Cause i love the idea of working in a school and teaching middle school children, but i LOVE the idea of help9ing people like a therapist or working in a asylum
So i want you guys opinions! Even if you dont me that well, what do you think? Psychology? Teaching? And dont leave a comment saying "Maybe you can teach psychology! LOL,xDD" Cuz im tired of hearing that><

Okay. So. Both teaching and psychology can be a hard dangerous work and may require very strong nerves from you. Especially when you mean asylum. I mean, you'd probably hear and see lots of sad and horrible stories during your career, but, as a specialist, your contact with the patients would probably be limited to short time therapies. Now being a nurse would mean dealing with all this hell the docs don't really get to see, as they're in their offices few times a week for several hours only. You'd probably get paid much more than if you were being a teacher. But I suppose some more '
Teaching. I dunno how it is in teh US, but I assume you'd have to choose specific studies, depending on what subject you would like to teach? If yes, it again makes the type of your studies vary, ie. it it's literature it would be WAY more reading all the time than in some different subjects. I'm aiming for Polish literature this fall, and I'm being warned all the time that it is a fuckload of reading. The concerned teachers also say they really hope I won't be a teacher after all because it isn't all that awesome.
And, depending on the type of school you may risk your nerves and more. The point is that it is way more easier for the students to get into your skin and attack you in any way, than for you to do the same for them, defense included.
Still, teaching, if you are good at it, eventually helps young people more than psychology. But it requires a strong personality and loads of creativity to make the dudes listen to what are you actually trying to tell em.

I want to know specifically, if you were to become teacher, what you would go into? Some would require extra classes that you wouldn't think you would need, although it would make sense (like for a mathematics major, my friend needed to take computer programming, so she had to learn about Java and C++, poor thing).
I really like psychology and it is currently my major. I used to be a biology major because I thought that I could handle it for pre-med, but I pretty much just wanted to shoot myself at the end of the semester. Haha. I'm for psychology now, but I might go for neuroscience as my major, because it would probably help me more for psychiatry. But you are only 17. You don't have to go into college with a major yet, and usually not until the end of your sophmore year will they ask you to decide.
Keep both in mind, but wait until you actually start classes in college before you are set on a major and minor. Many people switch their majors during their first two years of college. I'm pretty sure that you would stick with those, but both will be stressful. Of the two, I just have a feeling that you would probably enjoy teaching more.
I would love to hear more details on what you were thinking specifically.

Find actual jobs that require schooling in each of those areas. Make a list of those, and move from there. Possibly even asking people in those fields questions about things they would suggest education-wise.
